Our family used to go every time we gathered. We have kids and grand kids out of town, so it was a great place to go. Great food, nice atmosphere. Lately, the quality of the food has gone down hill. Not sure what it is, but things are just not what they used to be. We have a big family so we order a variety of classic dishes, pasta, baked dishes, and other things. The consensus was the same... Just not what it used to be! We'll probably go back and try again. Maybe the last few times were just off.

Consistently great, homemade italian food. Well worth the wait so make reservations if you can. The decor and long ticket times leave something to be desired. The service is pretty good, but the food is even better. Get the fettucine (homemade noodles), pizza, and the antipasta, but bring your fat pants, you'll need 'em. Muffaletta is good too.

I had the New York Strip and the wife had the homemade ravioli. I guess I should have asked the price of the steak since it said market price. Well, I guess the market price for a "fair" cut of meat with little seasoning was $32 that night. My wife however, enjoyed her 4 large ravioli. That is the reason I gave them 3 stars. Other that that, the atmosphere is nothing to sneeze at... I will probably try a pizza on the way through, but will not make it a point to go there. This trip was due to a Restaurant.com certificate. Apparently, this establishment is known for their pizza... Guess I should have ordered the pizza .. **sigh**

My long awaited dinner at Mattuccis was a sore disappointment considering it's reputation. The restaurant had been recommended by some friends and on line reviews were good. So we combined the visit with a tour of the Yuengling brewery. The pros were a average Manhattan, the fried calamari appetizer and the brewery tour. The cons were overcooked pasta and ho hum atmosphere. My wife had crab stuffed flounder which she enjoyed. However, her side of angel hair pasta was seriously overcooked and inedible. The tomato sauce tasted OK. My shrimp scampi was bland with overcooked spaghetti and five small overcooked shrimp. The included salads consisted of wilted lettuce adjoined by three small wedges of tomato. The restaurant was quite chilly. Won't be back - ever!

Matucci's is perfect. The food is cheap and delicious, and its house dressing is quite possibly the best in the world. Whatever dreadful reason brings you to Mt. Carmel, you should definitely stop by Matucci's since it is the best meal in town.

I've lived in the region my whole life so naturally Matucci's is what pops into my head when I think of a restaurant and come to think of it Matucci's is prolly the first place i remember eating out at. Over the years things change and other than a party catered in the back room I haven't eaten hear in years and years until last week I stopped for something different and to break up my routine, needles to say I got a good plate of food (Pasta & Meat Balls). I returned with a friend later in the week for another meal and again was happy, so the foods good - - - the Best ehhh maybe if you don't get out much. Memories abound hear for me,, the memory lane trip is helped by that fact that not one thing about the place has changed from the 60's, the color, the seating, the lighting and I'm pretty certain the furniture. Charming or A Dive depends on the user. Menu needs work as to ingredients and style of preparation in a time of abundant Italian Restaurants a Pasta Primavera is not the same every where as is a Chicken Marsala different from one to the other Matucci's offer only the generic name and its a surprise what you'll get,,, I'm not big on surprises so I was shy to stray from pasta dishes. Service was OK but you don't really come here in a hurry anyway. Heres my take : When I leave Olive Garden I'm full Happy and titillated. When I leave Matucci's I'm full and satisfied. The Olive Garden prolly cost me $20 + and I got an hour and a half ride home. I don't plan to wait as long between visits to Matucci's as before and plan to explore the sandwich menu a bit.

Great place for Steak & Lobster a bit high price but worth it. You can cut your Steak with just a fork. My husband & I share this plater. They also serve a salad, side of spaghetti's & good homemade bread. Their Parm Cheese is the best. Place is a bit shabby needs a make over but good food all around. I don't care for their pizza the sauce is to sweet. So is there Tomato gravy. But if you like sweet then go for it. It's a place to stop in the staff is the best. Drinks are made well not watered down. I gave the 4 Stars because they really need a make over the place has stayed the same since I started going there 18 years ago

I LOVE the fact that this place is still in business. We'd go there every time we'd visit the grandparents in the "coal region". Matucci's is a gem -- the best shrimp de jonge. Like Proust's madelines, I can taste it even now just thinking about it. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Everybody-knows-your-name kind of place.

Matucci's Willow Cafe was a real treat. The family owned restaurant has been doing its thing for over 4 generations. The building is not fancy and appears to be a converted home on a corner in a residential area of Mt. Carmel. Upon entering we notice the bar to the right and the dining room to the left. We observed a painting on the wall of the original owners. We were greeted by the host who asked us if we had a reservation. We indicated we did not, but this didn't seem to be a problem and we were seated right away. Within minutes we were greeted by a friendly waitress who was ready to get us drinks. This place is well lit/clean with beautiful aged wood paneling. There are two rooms accommodating around 60 - 70 guests, The full service bar has about 10 stools and a couple of booths. A flat screen TV is mounted on the wall for sports. They have an interesting bar and wine selection. Our drinks arrived and so did the loaf of homemade bread. We ordered the Olive Antipasti which came out picture perfect and tasted as good as it looked. Lots of chopped garlic, olive oil and mixed herbs. For dinner we ordered the Italian Combo Platter and Rigatoni with Butter and Garlic. The Italian Combo Platter came to the table with three huge Cheese Raviolis, Spaghetti, a Meatball and a piece of Sausage. The red sauce was a brilliant in color and delightful. The Spaghetti was al dente and you could see the fork mark on the Homemade Raviolis that were complement with the HM Meatball and sausage. The Rigatoni with Butter and Garlic Sauce was for real garlic lovers. Awesome!!!! Overall this was a real pleasant experience. I would recommend this spot to everyone near or far (we drove 160 miles). Thank you YELP, w/o you we would have never found this little gem!! Ciao

Best Italian food around! I've eaten here all of my life and haven't had a bad meal. This is a family run business and each generation continues the traditions of their founding father! ALL pasta and breads are made from scratch daily. Their pizza is scrumptious and very unique! House salads are the bomb! Too many Italian delicacies to mention! You won't be disappointed!

Excellent food. The calamari on the menu is in a soy sauce which I didn't understand so I asked for it in oil, garlic and basil which was excellent. i was raised by the type of folks that consider driving from bloomsburg to mt. carmel to be an undertaking which requires advanced planning - those 25 miles over the river and up the mountain are not something to be tackled on a whim! and not for something so casual as dinner for two! no!! it must be for something that requires a reservation for at least 12 people, to be made at least a week in advance. but maybe if i grew up in mt. carmel, it would just be that good italian joint i go to every thursday night. or whatever. anyway, i'm really hungry for matucci's fresh pasta (damn this carb-free diet) so i've decided: next time i'm home, i'm just gonna go there. by myself. without a reservation or anything. i'm just gonna drive all the way to mt. carmel for dinner. TAKE THAT, MOM! thanks for listening, yelp.

I used to go to Matucci's as a child every time we visited family in the Shamokin area. Mr. Matucci, with his snow-white hair and white apron, would stroll through the dining room and make sure that every single diner was enjoying themselves. To say that this place is "old school" is an understatement. The decor is sparse and the neighborhood depressed but that doesn't reflect on either the food or service. The pizzas are the BEST that I've ever had in my life and the antipasto platter overflows with delicious hand-sliced meat, cheeses, olives, etc. The fact that Matucci's is still in business after more than 40 years reflects on how incredible the restaurant is and has been. Every neighborhood needs a Matucci's...I just wish it was in mine.

Best Italian food outside of Italy. Get any homade pasta dish or the prime rib. The shrimp pizza is also awesome. Antipasta is huge. You can gorge yourself and get a pizza half baked for the next day. Must eat for central PA

And their prices are extremely affordable -- a fantastic value!

Mattucci's Italian Restaurant sets the standard for Italian food in America. I am full Italian. While I am born here in the U.S., my family are all from the northern Italian Alp regions. My family immigrated to Mount Carmel like many other Italians from that time period. When we go visit in Mount Carmel, going to Mattucci's is the icing on the cake. Its amazing! It puts new meaning to home made cooking in going out to eat. I fly across the country and if I am nearby, I will travel hours to eat at Mattucci's. Everything if amazing! Just a note a second favorite place when visiting Mount Carmel was Cucina Di Marco. Another northern Italian amazing restaurant. But unfortunately it has closed. Next time I am in town I will eat at Mattucci's! Molto buono!

I've been coming here or eating the take-out pizza on and off since I was a kid. We've had a few parties here, and they are always accommodating. Mattucci's is the place to go if you have a lot of time on your hands and want a good, homemade Italian meal. The food here is obviously homemade. You can tell by the way the noodles are cut, the way the sauce tastes, and the amount of time it takes to receive your food. They take a lot of pride in their meals. The tomato sauce is unique and almost everyone I know raves about it. If you order something with sauce, you'll get a heaping amount. Any entrees I've had here in the past were nearly impossible to finish so unless you have a huge appetite you'll be going home with leftovers. For this review, I'll stick to the pizza. To be honest (and others in my family will agree with me), the pizza is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll think the pizza was the best you've ever had. Other times, it's extremely average. Unfortunately, the pizza we ordered a couple weeks ago was average. The crust was somewhat burned, but the cheese and sauce were excellent (although a little more sauce would've been nice!). The end of the crust was basically inedible because I couldn't chew through it. Don't let this deter you from checking it out if you've never been here. The meals are impressive, and everyone here is friendly. It's just that the pizza is inconsistent!

We came to this restaurant not knowing what to expect since we are from out of town. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and the staff was very nice. We started with the calamari, mozzarella sticks, and hot wings.... All were fantastic. The home made bread was also delicious! We had cheese raviolis with marinara, angel hair with red sauce and meatballs, and Jay's Chicken. The home made raviolis were gigantic and tasted great! The portions were large and we are stuffed!

We ordered pasta fagioli and pizza with olives and mushrooms. Everything was fresh and good. I am used to pizza from north Jersey and the Manhattan area; so, it is hard to give a higher rating. Overall, the food. Our server was very attentive and efficient. If you are in the area, this is not a bad place to get a meal.

Yes , I believe it's been 15 years that I've been eating this food but the legend of this place goes back farther. I heard stories of it in my youth. I have never hard as good and consistently good food outside of grandmoms kitchen. I give Estella 6 stars by the way. I think Matucci could get six but they don't serve breakfast. I can't say this place is a pizza joint, but it has the best pizza around. It's not a fine dinning but try the veal, lobster and steak can't be better. It's not a diner , but soups salads bread and sandwiches are options. The is not a bar but has great beer and mixed drinks , wine and spirits. I can say this the place is NOT fancy , not luxurious, not comfortably trendy , that said it has real food at a reasonable price. no need for gimmicks like all you can eat. Just great food, mangia

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
